Is Bluehost a Good Web Host

Many years ago, when I was researching for a web host for a new website, I came across a number of web hosting review sites and forums which have good things to say about Bluehost. Before that, I had only vaguely heard about Bluehost but now I was intrigued with the highly recommended hosting company. So I decided to sign up and fast forward to today, I must say that I am still very impressed with Bluehost.

What is good about Bluehost

Is Bluehost really that Good?

At this point, I am pretty sure there are some readers who would like to point to me that Bluehost does get bad reviews too. For this, I agree. My question is that which web hosts doesn’t. There are bound to be users who are unsatisfied with the server’s speed or the technical support, or perhaps the

But look at it this way, here’s a web host who is offering you hosting at $3.95 per month (exclusive offer through our website, click here to activate this special offer), a price that’s so affordable that it’s almost unbelievable. And they also threw in tons of features and freebies. What more could you ask for?

Of course disk space and bandwidth are not exactly unlimited. Like all things in the world, resources are limited.

Yes, I am aware of Bluehost’s claims of unlimited disk space and bandwidth. What they meant here is that you are not allocated fixed resources. You are free to use your hosting server’s resources within what a normal website would consume. While this is subject to debate, we know that Bluehost do not squeeze as many websites as possible in one server hoping that these websites do not use more than what normal websites do.

Think of it this way, if you really get unlimited resources for only $3.95, wouldn’t all those gigantic organizations like Google host with Bluehost rather than building their own huge data centers? I rest my case.

WordPress web hosting services

Bluehost has been around since 1996, making them one of the pioneers of web hosting. They are also one of the biggest web hosts in the world with millions of domains being hosted. In fact, they are WordPress.org’s recommended web host for a WordPress environment. They met the latest WordPress’ requirements of:

  • PHP version 5.2.4 or greater; and
  • MySQL version 5.0

For experienced users, Bluehost’s hosting is flexible enough to allow them to customize their website. Bluehost also offers over 70 web applications (including WordPress, shopping carts and social networking scripts) that can be installed directly into your website easily, thanks to an application installer called SimpleScripts. Besides that, you can also install many plugins that are designed for WordPress websites.

If you are a beginner, don’t fret. Bluehost has many tools that you can leverage on to build a professional website. One example is the free Weebly Site Builder, a most easy to use drag and drop website builder.

Bluehost support

Bluehost has top-notch technical support where the support team is available all day throughout the year. So if you are, say, in Asia, you’ll be glad to know that you can still live chat with a support staff even if it’s in the middle of the night for them!

Alternatively, Bluehost has hundreds of knowledgebase articles which are both informative and exhaustive. There are also plenty of “how-to” video tutorials if you prefer watching videos.

VPS and Dedicate Servers Hosting

Previously, Bluehost customers who have out-grown shared hosting would need to seek new hosts as Bluehost do not offer VPS and dedicated servers.

  • Dedicated servers

Dedicated servers are servers that are leased to a single user. This means that your websites are getting so much traffic that it’s justifiable for you to rent a whole server. This service is not recommended for beginners because one, resources would be under-utilized and two, the cost is too high for them.

  • VPS

Meanwhile, VPS is a cross between shared hosting and dedicated servers. While you still share your server with a few other users, the server is partitioned. Your resources are allocated to you only, thus giving you almost as much control as a dedicated server would.

In 2013, Bluehost has introduced their VPS and dedicated servers hosting. As an introduction, you get 50% off for your first month for dedicated web hosting.

Bluehost dedicated server hosting

There are 3 dedicated plans i.e. Standard, Enhanced and Premium costing between $149.99 and $249.99. The first month would only cost between $74.99 and $124.99 after applying the 50% discount. Upgrades and new applications get instant provisioning within seconds.

The beauty of dedicated web hosting is that, you get complete access and control over your server! You will not be sharing it with another customer!
