What To Consider Before You Start Your Blog

To start a blog is not too difficult for a lot of people. But, these days it is quite common to see a lot of blogs being abandoned each day. If you do not want to end up being one of them, you should consider the following pointers before starting your blog. Do a bit of planning before creating your blog.

To blog or not?

1. What is your blog topic or theme?

Consider what topic or theme you want your blog to be. The question to ask yourself is, what can you write about? What topics you are interested in and have knowledge about? Are you going to summarize news and latest headlines? Do you want to publish tips, comments, or articles? Web hosting tips? Web hosting tutorials?

Decide on a blog topic or theme first before you start creating your blog.

2. What blog name?

Now that you have the topic of your blog, you must consider what to name your blog. This is very important as you will need a title for your blog and you will need to either register a domain name if you wish to host your blog on your own. In case you wish to use a free blogging platform such as Blogger.com and WordPress.com, you will still need to name your blog.

Choose and decide on a name that is the same as the name of your blog. Try to make the name short, memorable and catchy!

3. To host or not to host?

The biggest decision now is whether you want to host the blog yourself, or use a free blogging service that is hosted for you.

Free Blogging Services

Yes, you can have a blog for FREE! You can either use Blogger.com or WordPress.com, but with a free blogging service such as this, you don’t your own domain name. You get something like jasminebaking.blogspot.com which is usually quite long and thus more difficult to remember and type. You usually do not have complete control over the site since it is hosted not by you.

Host your own blog using WordPress

The recommended method would be to host your blog your own as it offers more flexibility and freedom to do what you want. You will have your own domain name, for example, jasminebaking.com. With my years of experience in blogging and creating websites, I highly recommend WordPress. It is an excellent free blog software that is easy to setup, very simple to use, and allows you plenty of flexibility.

4. Find a Web Hosting for Your Blog

Go with HostGator. HostGator is one of the top 10 web hosting companies in the world. They are now hosting over 2,500,000 domains! With such a large customer base around the world, these customers can’t be wrong!

HostGator’s web hosting starts at $4.95/month. But do not worry, with a limited time offer you can user our coupon code onlypay1cent to only pay $0.01 for your first invoice! Premium web hosting can’t get any cheaper than this! Basically you can nothing to lose trying out this great web host!

5. Install WordPress

If you have experience with installing web applications that use MySQL, this could take as little as 5 minutes. But, if you don’t have any experience, and if you have taken my recommendation and signed up a web hosting package with a reputable web host such as HostGator, they should provide you with a control panel called cPanel. Login to cPanel and you can find the Fantastico web application which allows you to install WordPress with just a few mouse clicks.
